"Gat was a total artist, a romanticist, inspired by the beauty of the new land. “Gat is considered one of the major artists who dedicated his life to the local landscapes,” according to the curator Yigal Zalmona (retrospective catalog for the Israel Museum, 1984), and “represents via his work and biography an authentic portrait of an Israeli artist.” Years of observation at the landscape gave birth to a corpus of works, which may function as a multifaceted painterly documentation. In addition, Gat painted fauvist and vital models of female nudes."
